This year, the Czech and Slovak Film Festival Australia (CaSFFA) is a little bit different but the main thing is that it is still on, despite the challenging months behind us in lockdown mode. The films are still the high quality and great storytelling you would expect from the Czechs and Slovaks, only the locations will be different. You can either experience these films within the nostalgic, old-fashioned, yet retro setting of the Village Cinemas Coburg Drive-In/Autokino, or from your lounge room sofa through ACMI's new "Cinema 3" online platform
The drive-in experience, combined with a mix of funny, exciting and inspiring films, is surely a guarantee for a good night out for film buffs and all who are interested in foreign film festivals. The festival takes place on 3 nights - 28th November, 2nd and 5th December.
For the online experience, from 1-14 December, four classic and Czech and Slovak films have been selected for your 'from home"viewing. Some of the film highlights include Charlatan (Šarlatán), a film set in the 1950s and based on true events, that has been selected as the Czech Republic entry at the 2021 Academy Awards.
For the online viewing, the film Havel, based on the life and work of the former Czech president, and The Impossible Voyage, which is an enjoyable look at the unique life of Slovak politician, diplomat, aviator, adventurer, freemason and astronomer, Milan Rastislav Štefánik are not to be missed.
