"A Dark Snow is Coming…" that's the warning of a new exhibition tackling climate change, especially in the ACT area.
Dark Snow is an Environmental Exhibition by John Brookes, featuring a series of images taken during recent heavy snowfall around the Snowy Mountains area.
John: "I intended to publish them as is - however, one thing I noticed at the time was that the further one got from isolation of the pristine snowfall and the nearer to human habitation: the less stunning white the snow. The more dug up by feet, skis and snowboards and the more tainted by emissions, black in certain places: behind cafes, pubs and other hostelries. Ironically spoiling the very vistas people go there for."
"Therefore, I reversed out the images, turning the bright whites to black; a glimpse of a future where humans have destroyed the very nature they claim to love. These will be shown alongside the original images for contrast. "
John is also running a prize competition for the wider community to submit artwork in any format, including written word, showing effects of climate change in ACT, for inclusion in an online gallery. For more information, please visit the website.
