The 22nd Biennale of Sydney is open at Cockatoo Island until the 6 September 2020. Entry is free and unticketed
Cockatoo Island is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, along with 10 other sites that combine to form the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Property, so it's a great way to explore history and art entwined with the spectacular backdrop of Sydney's harbour.
The theme for the 22nd Biennale is Nirin, an idea that 'our contemporary lives are laden with unresolved past anxieties and hidden layers of the supernatural' as explained by the Biennale of Sydney website. Sovereignty and the Environment are also explored in relation to contemporary life by the artists exhibited.
It's a glorious day out. Take a ferry to the island and don't forget your mask for public transport. Have lunch harbourside at one of the many cafes, including Mary's on the Edge.
Due to weather, some exhibition spaces on Cockatoo Island may be closed. Please check for updates on the website when planning your visit to avoid disappointment.
Please note the Biennale of Sydney is at many venues around the city and the closing dates differ for each venue, see here for more details.
Time is running out to visit the Biennale of Sydney on Cockatoo Island. So treat yourself and feel invigorated with an escape from contemporary life.
