Covid-19 has been a real downer for festivities in 2020. However, in Sydney there will be 4 fun-filled Festivals to look forward to in 2021.

The Sydney Festival (6 Jan to 26 Jan 2021)

The Sydney Festival is planning for 2021 with a focus on the recovery and rejuvenation of Australian arts, celebrating the very best new Australian work and the joy of shared live experiences. The safety and well-being of artists and audiences is foremost in our planning.

The first port of call during hard times is those providing lifesaving and essential services, followed by clear leadership and then the storytellers who help us through complex feelings and ideas.

The Festival is expected to run from 6 to 26 January, 2021. Our intention is to do all we can to support Australian artists and audiences in the times ahead.

Madri Gras (21 Feb to 7 Mar 2021)

2021's Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival will start on Friday 19 February, running through until Sunday 7 March.

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) is one of the oldest continuously operating LGBTQI organisations in Australia. SGLMG was built on the foundations laid by early community activists who fought for LGBTQI rights in a time of wide-spread, institutionalised oppression and discrimination. From these origins, SGLMG has evolved to include a strong focus on celebration while maintaining a commitment to social justice for LGBTQI communities.

Sydney Film Festival (9 Jun to 20 June 2021)

The world’s best new films come to Sydney every June for 12 days and nights of inspiring and entertaining premieres, talks and parties. Join us and be among the first in Australia to see the greatest, strangest and most exciting work that cinema has to offer.

Sydney Film Festival takes place at our flagship venue the State Theatre, as well as cinemas in the CBD, Newtown, Cremorne, Western Sydney and more, screening more than 200 films you won’t usually find in the multiplex. 12 films are selected for the Official Competition, which celebrates “courageous, audacious and cutting-edge” cinema with a $60,000 cash prize. Sydney Film Festival also presents seven other cash awards over the course of the festival.

Vivid Sydney

The Vivid Sydney 2020 Light festival has been cancelled. The Australian Government and health authorities have announced the cancellation of all non-essential gatherings to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Vivid Sydney is a annual event of light, music and ideas. Vivid Sydney will be back in 2021 and it will be bigger and brighter. Throughout Sydney, there will be extraordinary lighting sculptures and cutting-edge contemporary music. The highlight will be the spectacular illumination of the Sydney Opera House sails.
