With Autumn in full swing, many restaurants, galleries and workshops have released their seasonal events. So we have created a list with five things you should do next week. Be sure to attend them before they leave!
Dining:
Take advantage of March offers
There are plenty of options for dining this season, with each eatery coming out with their own Autumn twist on their menu. If you are looking for something inspired by western cuisine, then the American Express Delicious Month Out 2020 may appeal to you. This month, an array of bars, cafes, retailers and restaurants will host exclusive events and offers. There will also be three festival hubs in the CBD, Potts Point and Surry Hills. Both of these seasonal dining offers will only be available for a limited amount of time.
Shopping:
Buy new produce at local markets
With the arrival of Autumn comes new produce. There are plenty of markets available around Sydney for you to choose from. One example is Paddington’s market, which has been open since 1973 and has over 150 stalls filled with unique fashion, food, candles and vintage pieces.
If you want a market that is more food-based, then the Sydney’s local farmers market, located at the Entertainment Quarter, is where you will find new Autumn fruits and vegetables filling the stalls. The farmers market has a specific focus on organic and artisan produces, so you will know that you will be getting quality products from local businesses.
Family:
Visit the Grounds of Alexandria Yellow Brick Road
The Grounds of Alexandria is back again with a new exciting installation called the Yellow Brick Road. This month, the café is celebrating Sir Elton John’s most loved songs and costumes with neon décor and an equally bright menu. The café laneways are lined with bright tassels, neon wings and a grand red piano, and the menu includes the Tiny Dancer, a vanilla sponge cake filled with brightly coloured buttercream, and an assortment of cookies shaped in pianos, stars and rockets. There will also be photo and video competitions to win a $200 Grounds voucher.
Entertainment:
Watch Carmen at the Sydney Opera House
Visit the iconic Sydney Opera House this March and watch an opera while you are there. Carmen, a contemporary opera about a fearless heroine will be played until the end of March. You can even order a themed, three course dinner prior to the opera for $72 to complete the experience.
Movie:
Watch some movies on a Mov’in Bed 2020
Mov’in beds is an outdoors cinema, but instead of watching movies while sitting on a seat, you can instead lie on a comfy, queen sized bed. The beds provided are complete with pillows and blankets. You can even order classic movie snacks and drinks such as popcorn, candies and soda from pop-up restaurants and they will be delivered straight to your bed. Each bed can fit up to three people so you’re welcome to bring your family or friends along.
Art:
The Art Gallery of NSW is going to host a new exhibition that explores the lives of Australian individuals who lived through the post-war era. John Brack’s ‘The Austere Everyday’ exhibition uses drawings, paintings and inanimate objects to express these ideas.
However, if you want to explore art while serving a great cause, then the Powerhouse Museum is hosting an art exhibition showcasing the work of many potters who lived in the regions of Sydney that experienced this year’s bushfires. The exhibition Pots for Potters 2020 features ceramics donated by the members of the Australian ceramic community and they will be up for sale. Profit made from these purchases will go directly to those affected by the bushfires.
