With leaves falling and the weather cooling down, Sydney is now abundant with new events to experience this Autumn. This season, we have new art exhibitions and museums to admire, kid friendly activities for the family, and dining experiences that makes use of the new seasonal foods.
Art:
Celebrate the young, creative minds of Australia with Art Express
The Art Gallery of NSW is back again with a new collection of exhibitions for you to wander through and explore. One of these exhibitions is the annual Art Express exhibition, which celebrates an array of incredible artworks created by talented art students for their HSC examinations. This exhibitions comprises of a variety of art forms such as painting, films, drawings and ceramics. So come along and unlock the creative minds of some of Australia’s most artistic students.
Dining:
Learn how to cook Japanese food with a chef
With the ever growing popularity of Japanese cuisine, Class Bento is holding a cooking lesson program for those who are interested in recreating popular Japanese dishes at home. This program will be taught by chef Yoshiko Takeuchi, a well-known Japanese chef who has over twenty years of experience. In these lessons, you will learn the basics of Japanese cooking, such as Japanese seasonings, cooking rice, miso soups, teriyakis and dashi stock.
Sport:
Try your hand in boxing or yoga
The Pyrmont Community Centre is holding boxing lessons for anyone who is interested in the sport. The program will allow you to be trained by a professional, and you will learn all of the basics of boxing including jabbing, hooking, skipping, knockout punches and upper cuts. However, if you are a parent, then there a specially made yoga program for you. Potts Point has a community yoga program, which allows you to bring your children along while you stretch and relax your mind. This program is suitable for people will all levels of yoga experience.
Kid Friendly:
Allow your children to explore the bush
From February to April, Centennial Parklands is offering a fun yet educational experience for children aged 5 to 12 with their Bush School. At Bush School, the children will make new friends and engage in hands on, interactive games and activates to learn more about Australia’s natural landscape and its culture. Parents will also have the opportunity to receive some training and learn along with their children.
Museums:
Explore the world of magic
For something more unconventional, how about a historical exhibition about magic? The Museum of Magic is opening their doors to curious minds, allowing them to uncover the history of magic, its influence on culture, science, war and the movie industry. There will be interactive activities that will enable attendees to take a look at historical artefacts, drawings, films, costumes and more.
Culture:
Visit a UNESCO heritage site
In Parramatta lies a building with historical political importance, so much so that it has been this as a UNESCO heritage site. This building is the Old Government House, the home to our first ten governors. Parramatta is giving you the opportunity to explore the grounds of the house, along with the nearby Dairy Cottage in a program called the World Heritage Wonders. Each session will include a tour around the two buildings and an accompanying light lunch.
