From Darling Harbour to the Eastern Creek landfill site, and from your local park to the grounds of the State Library of NSW, the Australian white ibis seems to be everywhere these days.
The birds have become so much a part of the Sydney scene that they contribute to its soundscape, are incorporated into street art and outside diners are advised to take preventative measures against them. But go back just a few decades, to the 1970s, and seeing an ibis in the city was a rare event.
This talk will explore the rise of the ibis in Sydney's multispecies community, demonstrating that it is not only humans who have histories in place. Ibises also mark time.
