Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) is an emergency heart condition that occurs when a tear forms in one of the blood vessels in the heart. SCAD can slow or block blood flow to the heart, causing a heart attack, abnormalities in heart rhythm or sudden death. SCAD is the leading cause of heart attacks in women under 50 and cause of heart attacks in healthy, fit adults.
