There's a lot you can do with a humble can of chickpeas and Drool's next vegan virtual cooking workshop will show you how to create a chickpea feast.
Renee Buckingham, best known as the vegan founder of Melbourne Vegan Guide and Sydney Vegan Guide, will host a virtual vegan journey into her love of the humble chickpea on October 25. Chickpeas are a popular ingredient in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine, and Renee's vegan travel experiences will come to the fore as she makes falafel, hummus and even a gin-based cocktail. Renee is collaborating with Drool, a virtual cooking experience community where you can learn new cooking skills and share your creations in a friendly and fun online environment. Tickets are $20.00 per person, and you receive the ingredients list, method and Zoom details in advance once you book.
First, Renee will guide you through the steps to make a gin-based cocktail using the aquafaba, or 'bean juice' from a can of chickpeas. This versatile ingredient has also featured in previous Drool experiences as a substitute for egg white. Next, Renee will share the secrets to her special falafel and hummus recipes that showcase how tasty chickpeas can be. Finally, Renee will talk you through how to make a simple slaw to serve alongside your freshly made falafel and hummus. Then, it'll be a matter of sitting back and enjoying the fruits of your labour as Renee shares her insights into the art of food blogging and food styling. This is an early afternoon event so it's a perfect time to make and eat this light and tasty vegan gluten-free meal.
A self-confessed falafel 'addict', Renee has also founded many vegan guides around the world. She has been vegan for six years and, in that time, has become a prominent go-to person when vegan cuisine is concerned. Renee moved to Melbourne two years ago and has already consulted for restaurants, designed menus and worked with businesses and brands that are keen to learn about the vegan food market. Renee is a natural entertainer and loves nothing more than to cook simple vegan meals and share her vegan foodie passion with others. If you've ever been keen to learn more about being vegan, or incorporating more vegan meals into your diet, then Renee is a go-to vegan expert.
