Discover the beauty and the brilliance behind the art and life of one of South Australia's most famous female artists, Nora Heysen. Join The Cedars' Collections Manager Jill Swann OAM for a collaborative event between The Hahndorf Academy and The Cedars which celebrates Nora Heysen's extraordinary cultural legacy. This experience will commence at Hahndorf Academy at 2pm for a guided walk through the exhibition 'Nora Heysen: Forever drawing' and then continue on to Nora's studio and home at The Cedars.
Nora Heysen (1911-2003) drew from her early childhood years until the end of her life. From 1926 Nora Heysen studied under Frederick Millward Grey at the School of Fine Arts. In the mid-1930s she furthered her formal studies in London at the Central School and the Byam School. In 1938 Nora Heysen became the first woman to win the Archibald prize, and in 1943, Australia's first female Official War Artist.
Participants will need their own transport to travel between the Hahndorf Academy and The Cedars.
2pm - Meet at the Hahndorf Academy for a guided walk-through of 'Nora Heysen: Forever drawing'
3pm - Arrive at The Cedars, Heysen Road, Hahndorf to view original Nora Heysen's artworks in her studio and in the Heysen family home.
