Reciprocal is Asian Film Archive's (AFA) annual collaborative film program that spotlights the archival collections of AFA and a partnering archive. Inspired by and responding to the resonance of each other's featured collections, the curated line-up explores the creative intersections and juxtapositions between the preserved national, regional, and international film and moving image, offering perspectives on archival issues and concerns confronting contemporary archivists.
Explore the program at the NFSA, featuring themes of identity, love, resistance, and cultural change. Highlights include Maryam, a Malaysian drama about a woman challenging social conventions to marry for love; Be With Me, a Singaporean film interweaving stories of human connection around the real-life resilience of a deaf-blind woman; and Forever Fever, a disco-infused coming-of-age story that marked a milestone in Singaporean film distribution. The program also features Sementara, a documentary capturing Singaporean voices during the nation's 50th anniversary, and Ring of Fury, a once-banned martial arts cult classic. Screenings include English subtitles, with some followed by audience participation events such as karaoke.
