The Tiger design looks to the past for inspiration, but has a confident, fresh approach, much like the characteristics of those born in the year of the Tiger.
With its intense gaze, the distinctive tiger has stripes made from fragments of Chinese calligraphy, taken from a famous Tang Dynasty poem by the renowned poet Li Bai.
2022 is the Year of the Water Tiger. The poem was chosen for its symbolism, as the poet's friend departs on a yacht down the Yangtze River.
Auspicious gold is the colour of prosperity and fortune, and green the colour of hope, harmony and growth. The colours are also a subtle nod to a uniquely Australian celebration of the Lunar New Year.
About the artist:
Claudia Chan Shaw is a fashion designer, artist, curator, television and radio presenter, author, public speaker, and collector. She has a BA in Visual Communications Design from Sydney College of the Arts.
Claudia is co-designer and director for the internationally acclaimed Australian fashion label, Vivian Chan Shaw, with the designs represented in the permanent collection of the Powerhouse Museum.
Solo exhibitions:
She contributes to design and collecting publications and has curated a number of exhibitions. She is also an installation artist and photo artist; has held several solo exhibitions, and been a part of the Head On Photo Festival.
Claudia was the curator for Lunar New Year activities at World Square, Sydney (2019-2021). She designed the Warrior Ox (2021), The Ratrobats (2020), featuring eight playful acrobat Rat sculptures and conceived the Three (not so) Little Pigs installation of three whimsical 2.8m pigs doing a fan dance. The campaign was extremely successful. The pigs had their own hashtag created for Chinese visitors, resulting in over 10 million views on Chinese microblogging website Sina Weibo.
