Grainger Gallery is proud to welcome Benjamin Shine back for his first Australian show since April 2021 with “Flow.” This small body of work showcases his extraordinary talents with tulle, with limited portraits available for sale, as well as showing examples of work that can be commissioned through the gallery.
Benjamin Shine is a multidisciplinary artist most known for his pioneering work in tulle, which centres on ideas of energy, impermanence and the relationship between the spiritual and the superficial.
In these artworks, the Artist uses the transparent material in a variety of ways to sculpt “paintings”, three-dimensional forms, objects and large-scale installations.
Using an iron, and deftly manipulating the tulle, Shine's vision and care manifest through each fold of the fabric, becoming frozen in time and capturing the defined image.
Shine's works have been exhibited and purchased by private collectors and arts institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Arts and Design New York, The Crafts Council UK and The London Design Museum.
Commissions and collaborations include Givenchy, Maison Margiela, Bergdorf Goodman, Beyonce, Barclays Wealth, Google, Barnes and Noble, and MTV. Awards include The Enterprising Young Brit Award and the Arts Export Award Australia. He was recently listed as one of the 500 people shaping the fashion industry by the Business of Fashion.
