In late 2019, during what would become for many people the last few months of ordinary time as we knew it, a poetic correspondence began between two strangers via email and the narrow medium of the Messenger pane, and unfolded, one poem at a time. Without so much as the germ of a plan in place, the exchange evolved into an intense collaboration. Whether courtship dance, blood-brotherhood, or epistolary love affair of the imagination, the reader can decide.
From award-winning poets Anthony Lawrence and Audrey Molloy comes Ordinary Time, an extraordinary collaboration exploring themes of impermanence, distance, extinction, love and friendship through the natural and imagined landscapes of time travel.
On Thursday 18th August, Lawrence and Molloy will meet in person for the first time. Join them as they read from and discuss their book with host Judith Beveridge, one of Australia's most acclaimed poets.
Attendees are asked to arrive at 6.30pm or earlier for a 7pm start upstairs at The Royal Oak Balmain. Seating is unallocated - another reason to arrive early to secure an optimal spot. Why not make a full evening of it, too, by booking a meal at the Royal Oak before or after the event? One of Balmain's oldest and best-known pubs, it serves a delicious range of food and beverages.
Ordinary Time is published by Pitt Street Poetry, and will be available for purchase at the venue through Roaring Stories, with book signings from the authors following the discussion.
