Books and Banchan spotlights South Korea's genre-bending, and social and politically focused contemporary literature.
Hosted by Saimi Jeong, Walkley-Award winning journalist whose work has appeared in The Sydney Morning Herald, The Guardian, CHOICE and on FBi Radio, and Harry Jun who is a Sydney based comedian and was a RAW Comedy NSW State Finalist in 2019 and 2020, this dialogue focused gathering celebrates the recent surge in English-translations of Korean literature.
In this session the hosts will lead a discussion about Tower, Myung-Hoon Bae's book about a series of interconnected stories set in Beanstalk, a 674-story skyscraper and sovereign nation. Reading the book beforehand is recommended, but not required, as Saimi and Harry will facilitate lively discussion about the themes in the text.
To sustain the conversation, banchan - small Korean side dishes - will be provided.
This event is in partnership with the Korean Cultural Centre Australia.
Courtesy of the Korean Cultural Centre Australia, the first ten people to book will receive a complimentary copy of Tower, which will given to them at the event.
