CHUTNEY is a klezmer band with a twist. Drawing on their Eastern European and Middle Eastern heritage, they present a mix of original compositions and their own modern arrangements of traditional dance tunes. The musicians' on-stage chemistry is electric as they traverse styles from jazz to tango, folk to rock, classical to funk, east to west.
CHUTNEY made its Sydney Festival debut in 2022 and has played at the Sydney Opera House, the Roundhouse, LazyBones Lounge, The Vanguard, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and multiple sold-out shows at Camelot Lounge. CHUTNEY has toured regional NSW twice and has been broadcast on ABC Radio Sydney, Fine Music Sydney, and 4ZZZ Brisbane, among others.
The band has collaborated with Lior, Ilan Kidron (multi-platinum lead singer of The Potbelleez), and Alma Zygier. CHUTNEY members have appeared alongside Elton John, Janet Jackson, Jimmy Barnes, Celine Dion, Diana Ross, Human Nature, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Longtime collaborator Sarit Michael is a singer/songwriter inspired by jazz, funk, and soul with a voice to melt stone.
'CHUTNEY is one of the most exciting klezmer/gypsy bands to appear on the scene for many years. Fantastic and dynamic arrangements, brilliant playing and musicianship - and that all-important joie de vivre - a must-see experience!' - Yaron Hallis, lead singer of triple ARIA-winning Monsieur Camembert
With generous helpings of violin schmaltz, blisteringly fast solos, toe-tapping classics, and brand-new music, this will be a night to remember!
