This showcased event has concluded.
For more than 4 decades the Biennale of Sydney, Australia's leading exhibition of contemporary international art, has engaged with Sydney's public spaces in ways that are unexpected, fun and sometimes provocative.
The title of this exhibition takes its name from that of the 1979 Biennale of Sydney, ‘European Dialogue’. Now considered a watershed exhibition, it was the first in the world to present current work by Australia's First Nations artists on a shared platform with contemporary Western art.
Dialogues between diverse cultures have ensued in Biennale exhibitions over the 4 decades since. Parallel to that conversation, an ongoing dialogue continues to unfold between Biennale exhibitions and the city of Sydney itself.
This archival exhibition reveals how artists from all over the world have reimagined Sydney, responding to landmarks, previously hidden sites and little-known histories by offering new insights and alternative ways of experiencing our city.
