Subject: Developing a Sovereign Guided Weapons Capability

Location: Anzac Memorial Auditorium, Hyde Park South, Sydney

Tuesday 25 October 2022 Start Time: 1pm

On 31 March 2021, the previous Government announced the accelerated establishment of a Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Enterprise to enhance Australia's self-reliance and supply chain resilience.

Defence is currently working to three overlapping time horizons to deliver the GWEO Enterprise:

  • Short Term 'Accelerate' Phase (0-5 years): design and implementation activities, including accelerating overseas procurement where possible, and rapidly mobilising the industrial base to increase Australia's ability to maintain and manufacture guided weapons and their components.

  • Medium Term 'Grow' Phase (0-10 years): accelerating co-development of future weapons systems and components.

  • Long Term 'Sustain' Phase (10-15 years): Australia will have achieved increased sovereign design, development, manufacture and support of selected weapons
