On 31 March 2021, the previous Government announced the accelerated establishment of a Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Enterprise to enhance Australia's self-reliance and supply chain resilience.
Defence is currently working to three overlapping time horizons to deliver the GWEO Enterprise:
Short Term 'Accelerate' Phase (0-5 years): design and implementation activities, including accelerating overseas procurement where possible, and rapidly mobilising the industrial base to increase Australia's ability to maintain and manufacture guided weapons and their components.
Medium Term 'Grow' Phase (0-10 years): accelerating co-development of future weapons systems and components.
Long Term 'Sustain' Phase (10-15 years): Australia will have achieved increased sovereign design, development, manufacture and support of selected weapons
