Djinindira means sparkling ray of light" in the Ngunnawal language. It is the true name of Ginninderra – a place of deep cultural significance to the Ngunnawal people. For thousands of years ancestors have cared for this Country – the creek the falls the land – and passed down its stories since the first sunrise.
This work reflects the moment when Bagariin (the sun) touches Nadjung (the water) creating Djinindira – light that dances across the surface alive with meaning. It is a reminder that Country is always speaking if you take the time to see and listen.
Through this exhibition viewers are invited to see through the eyes of a Ngunnawal artist and Traditional Owner – to walk gently with the light the water and the stories. Patterns and forms echo riverlines pathways and shimmering reflections capturing the spirit of a place still rich with presence.
Djinindira carries the strength of story language and place – a clear sign that Ngunnawal Country remains and your connection to it is unbroken.
Opening night is at 6pm Friday 11 July 2025."
