Doris Fish, (aka Phillip Mills) 1952 - 1991, was a Sydney drag queen who started her career in Sydney with the radical drag troupe Sylvia and the Synthetics, and joined The Tubes in San Francisco. She starred in the film Magazine Movie as 'a fake woman from Australia who has won the heart of San Francisco'.
She then alternated between working on floats for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and co-compering Cabaret Conspiracy with Jacqueline Hyde in Sydney, and performing with her troupe Sluts-A-Go-Go and starring in/producing the drag cult classic Vegas in Space in San Francisco. The Mayor of San Francisco proclaimed an official Doris Fish Day in her honour in recognition of her dedication and contribution to the city's artistic community before her death from AIDS in San Francisco in 1991.
'- a charismatic figure whose life and outrageous career closely followed the arc of contemporary gay history' - New York Biographer Craig Seligman, currently writing a book on Doris Fish.
