25 November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Older Women's Network (OWN) NSW will be putting on a special event, 'Driving on roads is not enough: Why we still need to make a feminist difference', to commemorate the day.
You may recall that women were told by the government that we could drive on new roads following Budget 2020 in response to our feedback that the budget did not contain any measures specifically to address the needs of women. Covid-19 has impacted on women disproportionately. What does it take for the balance to tilt so women are not disadvantaged?
The webinar is also an opportunity for us to launch the new website for the Edna Ryan Awards! We're honoured to announce that OWN NSW will take over the hosting of the award and hope that the Covid-19 situation will improve enough for us to hold the award face to face in late 2021.
We have a great panel who will share their perspectives and personal insights:
Natalie Lang, Branch Secretary of the Australian Services Union NSW & ACT
Saba Vasefi, Multi-award winning artist, filmmaker, poet
Barbara O'Neill, Aboriginal Support Worker, Junction Neighbourhood Centre (Maroubra)
Lyndall Ryan, Historian & Professor in Newcastle University's Centre for the History of Violence
Caroline Baum, Writer & Journalist (Moderator)
Join us, and find out why our webinars have gained a loyal following!
You will receive a Zoom link prior to the event in a separate email.
