Dumb Kids by Jacob Parker. Presented by Legit Theatre Co. in association with bAKEHOUSE Theatre Company.
Dumb Kids is a modern, queer response to Wedekind's Spring Awakening, telling the story of ten year 11s navigating their way through identity and sexuality. Set in a contemporary Australian playground, the students meet to plan the best ever Year Eleven Social (YES). From ten completely different walks of life, they awkwardly discover what it means to grow up in a world where everyone knows exactly what they're doing. They want love, they want passion, they want to be friends for life, but they need answers and they need to be the most authentic versions of themselves. Above all else, they need this YES to be the best YES ever.
Fresh off the critically-acclaimed production of Tell Me Before the Sun Explodes at KXT last year, playwright Jacob Parker returns to bAKEHOUSE with an explosive polyphonic writing style to explore these young, unique and resonant queer voices coming into their own.
'Parker's dialogue is witty and incisive, revealing an uncanny ability to observe the world with inordinate sensitivity…' - Suzy Wrong, Suzy Goes See - Tell Me Before the Sun Explodes
Dumb Kids is for audiences 18+ as it contains discussions of sex and sexual assault.
