Judged by Australian Tonalism collector and genre expert Peter Perry, participants will capture the urban landscape around Hawthorn Arts Centre with like-minded art enthusiasts. Five top participants will be selected to later exhibit their painting in the Camberwell Art Show.
By capturing the tonal qualities of natural phenomena, the experience will attempt to tangibly replicate how artists, including Clarice Beckett, saw the world during the time of the Tonalism movement in Melbourne during the 1920s and 1930s.
Artists are required to bring their own painting materials, and high-quality art paper will be provided. Registrations are open until 10.30 am Saturday 10 May. Participants can register on the day.
At the end of the session, participants are invited to submit their work to the Town Hall Gallery team. Esteemed collector Peter Perry will judge the entries, with the winners to be announced on Monday 19 May via social media. The top 5 entries will be displayed at the Camberwell Art Show, with the overall winner receiving a selection of special prizes, including tickets to the Camberwell Art Show Opening Night.
This event is inspired by the current major exhibition ‘Australian Tonalism: A selection from the John and Peter Perry Collection’ and is presented partnership with the Camberwell Art Show.
