Sexy. Shameless. Joyous. Unapologetic: queer joy is on display at this new Sydney festival.
Australia's only queer writers festival, EnQueer, has returned to put on its first in-person event.
Aptly themed 'In the Flesh', Enqueer 2022 aims to expand on its 2021 online debut with a new series of thought provoking panels, talks and workshops exploring queer identity, legacy and, above all, queer joy.
Moving beyond discussions purely focused on labels of sexuality and gender identity, EnQueer aims to explore a truly diverse range of queer experiences. Some of the festival's most popular panels this year are doing just that: 'SMUT' takes aim at the sanitisation of queer stories by interrogating and celebrating queer writing about sex, and 'Shame/less' explores the possibility for queer stories that aren't centred in trauma.
In the spirit of celebrating queer joy, EnQueer's Opening Night brings you an evening of Writing Funny. Featuring two comedic contemporaries - acclaimed stand-up performer and poet Cassie Workman.
EnQueer first launched in late 2021 with a series of online panels featuring some of Australia's most celebrated queer writers, including Courtney Act, Benjamin Law, Jennifer Mills and Gary Lonesborough. Book now all sessions are selling fast.
