To celebrate the 45th Sydney Mardi Gras, the Queen Victoria Building will be renamed in honour of the real queens, kings, icons, activists, and changemakers who have helped make Australian Pride what it is today.
Portraits of Australian Pride royalty will be featured throughout the QVB, along with their stories from 45 years of standing up, standing out, and driving change.
Visit the QVB from 7 February to 13 March and experience the iconic centre dome transform into a vibrant art installation featuring large-scale portraits paying homage to our real queens.
Join us in celebrating: entertainer, trans icon and cabaret star Carlotta; queer activist Ken Davis, who convened the Gay Solidarity Group which initiated the first ever Sydney Mardi Gras in 1978; Independent Sydney MP Alex Greenwich and ally Janine Middleton AM, who Co-Chaired Australian Equality and successfully fought for and helped to achieve marriage equality in Australia; and Indigenous drag queen and performer Felicia Foxx, who passionately advocates for visibility and empowerment for young Indigenous queer people.
