Holding Ground is a timely exhibition as the world lurches towards an environmental eclipse. The exhibition focuses on the state on New South Wales with a selection of paintings, ceramics, photography and textiles that focus on the disparate state of the region's natural systems along with the impact of unfettered industrialisation.
The works reveal the rich inter-connections arising from the demanding business of processing physical space in today's challenging environments. Featuring the works of 17 leading Australian artists with deep connections to various regions of New South Wales including Badger Bates, Sophie Cape, Lucy Culliton, Jo Davenport, Julie Harris, Janet Laurence, Euan Macleod, Mac Maderski, Idris Murphy, Angus Nivison, Lae Oldmeadow, Julie Paterson, Simon Reece, Mark Seiffert, Imants Tillers, John R Walker and John Wolseley.
Holding Ground compels viewers to re-think and look more closely into the complex makeup of the places they inhabit: places that sustain the fragile web of life. The future is here: The exhibition is a timely recognition of what matters and what needs to be held close.
