The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia displays the Australian collection of the art exhibits of the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV).
Located at Federation Square, it is the world's first major gallery dedicated exclusively to Australian art. Named after businessman and philanthropist Sir Ian Potter, the centre has a collection numbering almost 25,000 works.
The gallery presents the history of Australian art through a comprehensive program of exhibitions and displays that include photography, prints and drawings, fashion and textiles, and decorative arts.
The centre also acknowledges the power, primacy, and cultural diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art through a suite of galleries dedicated to major historical and contemporary works.
The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia is open daily except on Christmas Day. On Anzac Day it is open from 1pm.
