From birth, women are taught to participate in the cycle of watching and being watched. Into the arms of Venus de Milo is a commentary on the female body as both object and subject.
Lauren van Dort, Ella van Dort-Gilmore and Mia van Dort-Gilmore are artists working on Gadigal land who reflect on what it means to be a female in the postmodern age. They explore the paradoxical ideas of women as both sexual and pure, adorned and modest, powerful and powerless. By subverting the male gaze, they place the exploration of womanhood into the rightful hands of women.
