This holidays Jump StART is going online to bring together students in years 5-12 from all over Australia, to create and collaborate in a virtual shared space. Together we'll perform and develop new stories in classes designed to be jam-packed with fun and challenge.
Join us from the 8th - 17th of July and get a taste of what's to come in future Jump StART programs.
Our workshops:
Creating Characters
For Years 5-6
Wednesday 8 July | 11am - 1pm (AEST)
Invent your own character from the ground up. Decide how they walk, how they talk, and what they have to say! Investigate playwriting, directing and performing as you bring your new creation to life. And to finish up, the class will be your audience as you bring all the elements together in a performance of a lifetime!
Monologue Development
For Years 10-12
Tuesday 14 July | 11am - 2pm (AEST)
Take your monologue skills to the next level as you work with professional performers &directors, eager to impart years of industry knowledge (hint: final year individual projects and those looking to audition for drama school will be sure to benefit). Learn how to break down text in new ways, and inhabit the world and character of your monologue. The class will conclude with a presentation of each polished piece.
Make Your Own 10 Minute Play
For Years 7-12
Saturday 11 July | 11am - 5pm (AEST)
The challenge is on! Young people from all over Australia will come together to write and perform an entire play in just one day. Together we'll get our minds and bodies into gear, test them in a series of devising exercises, before entering a "writer's room" to get our ideas down onto paper. Gather props and costumes from around your home to help set the scene, before we end the day performing our Australian premiere production.
Acting Masterclass
For Years 7-10
Friday 17th July | 11am - 2pm (AEST)
A workshop to provide a broad overview of acting for stage and screen. We will explore major techniques adopted by performers over the years (i.e. Stanisvlaski, Method and Meisner), which have shaped expectations and dramatic approaches, before leading into the fundamentals of voice and movement. Utilising our online platform, we will transition a performance from stage to screen, and examine how the two differ. Our session will conclude with a partnered performance task and opportunity to put newfound knowledge into action.
