Adaptable, loyal and courageous, the always-active Horse stands tall in the crowd.
Taking on a robotic form, the Horses are embellished with vibrant Korean flowers and patterns including the dancheong which is found on traditional Korean wooden buildings.
The magnificent Horse lanterns make reference to traditional totem poles that identify village boundaries and serves as protective guardians. With an illuminated beating heart, the pair of 6m tall Horses are designed as modern guardians for the Lunar New Year.
About the artist
Born in Seoul, Australian landscape painter Min-Woo Bang came to Australia in 1990 and graduated National Art School and Sydney College of the Arts. Bang has been a finalist in The Wynne prize, Mosman art prize, King's School Art Prize, the Tattersall's Landscape Art Prize, and Hadley's Art Prize.
