Trustworthy, empathetic and friendly, the Rabbit is sociable, relishing the company of others.
Taking inspiration from the popular 'White Rabbit' candy, the Rabbit Lantern is reminiscent of sweet childhood memories, fun and play, indulgence and treats.
Taking colourful candy packaging as a cue, this playful 5m tall Rabbit Lantern is inspired by the ancient art of Chinese paper-folding.
The concept is a nod to Liang and Lu's humble childhood when they did not have the luxury of owning toys but cherished the folded paper forms their parents would fashion for them out of their favourite candy wrapper.
About the artist
Nancy Liang is a collage artist who uses drawing, paper cut-outs and animation to explore Australian urban landscapes. Fiona Lu is an interdisciplinary artist that explores the 'in-between' of Chinese and Australian culture through her art practice. Both Australian born, Liang and Lu integrate their Chinese cultural experiences of growing up in Sydney to explore icons of childhood nostalgia through re-imagined forms that spring to life.
