Join contemporary jeweller, Marina Civiero, to design and make your own earrings to show off to friends in this fun and fast class.
In a small class, you will learn beginner techniques of working with metal, including how to:
cut metal using a jeweller saw frame and blades
anneal your metal to help you manipulate shapes
hammer and texture your design
cold-join your components together
file, sand and polish your pieces to your desired effect
oxidise or blacken your pieces to highlight areas of your design
create your own sterling silver ear hooks.
You can bring your own design or get design guidance from your teacher, and learn how to saw-pierce, anneal, hammer, texture, file, sand and polish your metal. Choose from a range of finishes such as matte, shiny, hammer or oxidised to complete the process.
In this beginners class, you will start using brass or copper to develop your skills, and then make at least one pair of sterling silver earrings with handmade sterling silver hooks. You will come out of the day with several pairs of finished earrings.
All tools, materials and consumables supplied.
About your teacher:
Marina Civiero is a contemporary jeweller of 30 years. She has run her own successful jewellery business which has included a retail shop front in Newtown, participating in design markets, contributing to contemporary jewellery exhibitions and wholesaling to boutiques and design galleries across Australia.
She was a teacher at TAFE NSW for 15 years and has delivered various jewellery workshops including at Sturt School, Mittagong.
Taking inspiration from many sources, including interiors, nature and fabrics, Marina enjoys incorporating colour and texture into her work. Utilising textile techniques such as printing and weaving, there is a strong sense of hand work and stitching. Through attempting to replicate textiles processes and textures, there is also a reminder of her childhood and of her mother constantly hand and machine knitting, sewing and stitching.
