Marea Gazzard's work was inspired by traditional objects, but she transformed them into enigmatically beautiful sculptural forms.
Travelling the world as the first elected president of the World Craft Council, and for residencies in various countries, Marea was drawn to cultural objects, both contemporary and historic, creating work that exuded a sense of shared humanity.
Tactile, enigmatic and rich in subtle surface colour and texture, the works in this exhibition rest quietly, making us pause. Sometimes Marea cast work in bronze as well, mounting them like museum displays, casting shadows against the wall.
