This showcased event has concluded.
After an absence of more than seven years, Martinez Akustica, the band billed by Bluesfest as 'probably the greatest acoustic guitar band in the country' is re-forming especially for WOMADelaide.
Sydney-siders have a rare chance to see this band at Foundry 616 before they wow Adelaide. Chilean-born, Victor Martinez Parada, recognised as one of the world's finest classical Latin-American avant-garde solo guitarists, will be joined by his sons, Andro and Dauno Martinez.
Martinez Akustica performed professionally from 1997 until 2012 throughout Australia and internationally. All three members play six-string acoustic and electric guitar, bass and also used their instruments as percussion and vocal beatbox. One minute they play in unison, the next in harmony, then across and against each other
Their music is calm, then chaotic, beautiful, then forceful. It is difficult to fully describe them until you've heard them. Their interplay and understanding that flows through them are inspiring, endearing, and infectious. They truly captivate their audiences as they stretch each other's ability with a flourish here and an astonishing variation there.
These incredible players were on the must-see list for anyone who played the guitar, anyone who aspired to play guitar, and anyone who enjoyed listening to guitar.
Each of the members now has individual careers but is thrilled to re-unite for Sydney audiences at Foundry 616 on Thursday 27 January!
