Escape the cold these holidays and take your family on an adventure through our galleries followed by an artmaking experience with an MCA artist educator.
Join artist educators for our Mai, Garaga, Guri program (Gadigal/Sydney language meaning Eyes, Mouth, Ears) and take part in a mini-interactive family tour, stopping at two key artworks by artists Vincent Namatjira and Richard Bell. See the works up close and unpack the ideas shared by these artists. Once inspired, you will return to our Studios for an art-making session.
In the makers' studio, both children and adults will be making either self-portraits or collaborative portraits that hold an important message to them, working with mixed material collage.
The program will run for approximately 2 hours. The content of this program is recommended for school-aged children and may not be appropriate for younger children. Capacity is limited, please book early to avoid disappointment. Please note, booking times cannot be swapped.
Who can attend?
All bodies and all abilities are welcome. This program has been designed for children ages 4-12 and their families to collaborate, create and play. All children must be accompanied and supervised by a paid participating adult. Siblings under the age of 4 are also welcome to join for free.
Sensory-friendly session: Friday 9 July
All are welcome to our sensory-friendly session on Friday 9 July, 10.30am - 12.30pm. At the MCA, we believe art is for everyone and design our workshops with all families in mind. What you can expect on the day is the same as the rest of the week, with a few minor changes. Please contact us if you have any requests by email at reception@mca.com.au or 02 92452400.
Music and noise will be lowered. Families will be asked to be mindful of loud noises within the space.
A more minimal space with fewer materials and props.
An extra chill-out space for all families.
Extra MCA artist educator to support families during the program.
Space and time for families to take part in the program at their own pace.
