Molecule pays homage to the quintessential precious role of water in all life.
It is at the core of who people are, making 70 per cent of beings. The Earth has over 510 million square kilometres of area and less than 30 per cent is covered by land, the balance is water, in the form of vast oceans, lakes, rivers and streams.
Water is the lifeblood of all living things. Water can be both visible and invisible; aquifers are the source and guardians of our water supply. When the river runs dry, water quietly collects and flows through the porous rock deep within the earth.
This great resource is under threat due to unsustainable industrial and agricultural practices and devalued due to easy access and overconsumption. It is only when catastrophe leads to crises that we truly value its existential, economic, and cultural importance.
The Institute for Water Futures at the Australian National University is delighted to support the work of their Cultural Resident Glenn Loughrey. The Institute promotes conversation and learning around Indigenous perspectives on water and Country. Through our work, they grow capabilities across the water sector to inform today's decisions that anticipate their increasingly complex and uncertain water.
