For this exhibition, Nicola Dickson has studied notes, drawings and engravings documenting the French scientific voyage commanded by Louis de Freycinet from 1817 - 1820. She is fascinated by the voyagers' deep curiosity and respect for both nature and the people that the explorers encountered. Nicola responds to the archival materials through beautifully rendered paintings that capture her thoughtful impressions from a contemporary viewpoint.
