Each moment is the universe. Peng Yong (b.1984), a highly talented artist and a practicing Buddhist, has been recently exploring this Zen view of time.
This exhibition is Peng Yong's second solo exhibition with Vermilion Art following his successful debut in Australia in 2016. This latest series features over 20 paintings he completed in 2020 and 2021.
Peng has been reflecting on the ever evolving relationship between ourselves and the times we live in, especially since early 2020. The effects of simple and mindful repetition can be powerful. Carrying on with the concept of 'repetition and generation' in his previous Urban series, Peng's new work is made up of successive and overlaying brushstrokes and colour blocks.
Mark Rothko said, 'The people who weep before my pictures are having the same religious experience I had when I painted them.' The slow and steady brushstrokes in Peng's work mindfully record these passing moments, for himself, and for us all.
