After highly successful editions I and II, PhotoAccess is proud to present the return of Life in the Landscape III - Parkwood. This urban photographic series takes its participants to the city fringes, to document spaces where human industry and the natural landscape intermingle.
Since the 1800s, the area has been occupied as farming land, but artefacts found in the creek point to indigenous use of the area from 21,000 years ago. In 2020, the lease of this land, as well as adjoining farms, were turned back over to the Crown in order to develop new suburbs and housing. This edition of LITL is special for its position to capture the landscape of Parkwood before it transitions once more in to a suburb of 5000 new homes, in a planned cross border community between ACT and NSW.
Led by local photographer Sari Sutton Life in the Landscape will focus on exploring the remnants of human activity in Sustainability Street, Recycling Circuit and Parkwood Road on the border between ACT and NSW. A small group of artists will work together over several weeks exploring how to capture different facets of the Canberra location. The collaboration will culminate in a PhotoAccess exhibition in the Huw Davies Gallery launching in November. Participants will be responsible for covering the costs of printing their images for the exhibition outcome.
