As part of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival join us for two talks honouring and sharing LGBTIQA+ stories from our local area.
Engage with the broadening intersectionality of being LGBTIQA+, as we reflect on our history and explore what it means to be queer in the current moment. Our starting point is framed around the complexity of intersectional identity - we are more than just one part of our LGBTIQA+ acronym.
Hosted by Tony Duke also known as Pa Condom, cultural activist and social entrepreneur. Each evening will present a panel of diverse voices, and identities including artists, authors, activists, academics, and community members in shaping the narrative of 2024.
The events start at 4:30 pm, the talks are at 5pm, and the entire event concludes at 6.30pm.
Panelists:
Garry Wotherspoon - historian and gay community elder
Atul Joshi - writer, arts administrator and a queer person of colour
Dr Shirleene Robinson - historian, curator and author, President Sydney's Pride History Group
Aunty Zak Douek - gender fluid community elder and mentor
Wart also known as Ma Condom - artist, performer and poet with disability
Future Present - Sunday 25 February: Share ideas and aspirations for our collective future
Panelists:
Dr Quah Ee Ling - fire dragon feminist queer migrant woman from Singapore of Chinese-Hokkien and Indonesian-Peranakan heritage. Western Sydney University senior lecturer and author.
Adam Doughty - non-binary artist and designer
Speedy Shatari - inclusion and motivational speaker, proudly non-binary, transmasculine advocate and instrumental in developing Australia's first LGBTIQA+ Jewish mentorship program
Jacyn De Santis also known as Foxxy Empire - Sista Girl originally from the Tiwi Islands. Poet, playwright and performer.
Both sessions invite you to contribute your story, fostering discussion and celebration of LGBTIQA+ life.
