The annual community awareness week held across Australia and New Zealand is designed to engage and educate the community in safe rail practices.
Ongoing commuter safety relies on those interacting with the rail environment, both pedestrians and commuters to play an active role in rail safety, in particular to be aware of their surroundings.
These rail safety messages remain relevant all year round;
1. A moment of distraction can change your life forever.
2. Unsafe actions around trains & trams can affect a rail worker's life forever.
3. A person is killed or injured on the Australian rail network every 2.5 days.
