Join us for a special night of healing with guest speaker George Najarian to celebrate Refugee Week.
George, also known as 'Ginger George', is an Armenian refugee from Syria and an ambassador with the Refugee Council of Australia. He volunteers across 7 different organisations, advocating and representing refugee communities and has launched 2 scholarships for refugees. George is a passionate public speaker advocating for refugees and has appeared on TV and radio.
This is a wonderful opportunity to hear his story and learn about each other.
George's talk will be interpreted in Auslan.
You'll also get the chance to sample food from other cultures prepared by Parliament on King, a refugee-based catering kitchen. And talented Kings Cross vocalist Jay Dunn and her ensemble Dazen World, featuring Argentinian and Indonesian rhyme and sounds, will perform live healing music.
We aim to deliver inclusive and accessible events. If you have any particular access or communication needs, please contact Bishop Laryea on 02 8374 6310.
Bookings essential.
Refugee Week is a celebration of the contributions refugees and people seeking asylum make in our communities. It also provides awareness of the issues affecting refugees and reminds us all about social cohesion. We share a common humanity in our basic needs and a desire to avoid suffering.
The theme of this year's Refugee Week is healing. The importance of human connection helps to heal the pain we feel and by storytelling and sharing our stories we learn from each other and create harmony and togetherness.
