Join us for a morning tea with guest speaker Milad Kado to celebrate Refugee Week.
Milad, now an ambassador with the Refugee Council of Australia, was born in Iraq and dreamt of becoming a doctor since he was 8 years old. His family fled worn torn Iraq and went to Syria, for a new start but soon after war broke out in Syria. For 3 years Milad was unable to go to school and his hopes of becoming a doctor were crushed. His family were eventually given a lifeline - a refugee visa to Australia.
This is a wonderful opportunity to hear his story and learn about each other.
Milad's talk will be interpreted in Mandarin.
We aim to deliver inclusive and accessible events. If you have any particular access or communication needs please contact Jack Chen on 02 9288 5601.
Bookings essential.
Refugee Week is a celebration of the contributions refugees and people seeking asylum make in our communities. It also provides awareness of the issues affecting refugees and reminds us all about social cohesion. We share a common humanity in our basic needs and a desire to avoid suffering.
The theme of this year's Refugee Week is healing. The importance of human connection helps to heal the pain we feel and by storytelling and sharing our stories we learn from each other and create harmony and togetherness. (photo credit to RCOA)
