Rest in Pieces invites you to attend an introductory, two-day, hands-on workshop where you will learn the scientific process of corrosion casting.
Scientist, Gavin Burland, will share some of his extensive knowledge gained over more than 15 years working with plastination techniques, museum preparation techniques, anatomical embalming and dissection.
Gavin is currently the Manager of Technical Operations at the Sydney School of Veterinary Science (University of Sydney) and President of the Australasian Institute of Anatomical Sciences (www.aias.net.au)
The workshop will run from 1:00pm - 9:00pm on Saturday and 11:00am - 6:00pm on Sunday.
You don't need to have any previous corrosion casting experience to take part in this workshop. Gavin will teach you basic sheep pluck anatomy while guiding you through the correct process of preparing, injecting, macerating and installing your specimen.
Throughout day one, you will learn how to identify the anatomy, prepare the specimen and inject the heart with resin. Gavin will end the day with an informative seminar on the history of corrosion casting and the process of chemical maceration.
On day two, you will clean and prepare your own pre-macerated specimen, ready for mounting. You will end the day by learning the basics of installation.
At the end of the weekend, you will walk away with a deeper knowledge of this fascinating scientific process and your very own gorgeous corrosion cast heart in a glass dome.
Everything will be supplied including your sheep pluck, tools and materials, an apron, dinner (Sat), light lunch (Sun) and a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages so that you can sit back, relax and enjoy the weekend. (Note, alcoholic beverages are only available for students 18+)
