All That Remains

Paint, Clay & Paper

Liz Jeneid, a maker of prints, artist's books and watercolours and Robin Gurr, a ceramicist, reference 'things left behind'.

Liz has drawn primarily on the recent bushfires which consumed and changed the landscape with terrifying speed. She was on the NSW south coast shortly after the fires and saw the results and, although her house did not burn, experienced the distress of others. Her work  documents this experience, through the use of wood & lino cut prints and by using ash gathered at the fire ground mixed with acrylic and watercolour.

Robin, who produces both functional and sculptural work, refers to worn graffiti, survivors of fire, detritus from an abandoned mine site and odd pieces of tableware which find their way into charity shops. Her work consists of wheel formed elements, altered and combined mostly into sculptural vessels.  Her palate is subdued with surfaces showing evidence of weathering, decay and erosion.

Both artists depict relics - ' surviving memorials of something past' - and, in so doing, anchor our place in time, contributing to our collective memory by making a material connection with a world which is in the act of slipping away.

To be opened by Joe Eisenberg OAM

Thursday 11 March 5.30 - 7.30 pm
