The artwork of 3 Sydney artists reflect their experiences of the year 2020; the shock and pain of the fires, flood and Coronavirus, and the renewed gratitude for their home during social isolation.

The sanctuary of the home provided the opportunity for personal reflection and appreciation the beauty of the simple things around us, and the importance of family and friends that we may have once taken for granted.'

The three artists have focused on different aspects of 2020.

Maggie Beale has concentrated on still life; her floral paintings inspired by Matisse convey the joy of colour and bringing joy in a  dark time of home

Jan Nabben work  ranges from portraits of those who have supported her through this time, and memories of family and friends who have passed on.  She also   has been inspired by living near the beach, with its never ending changes of light and colour.

Ros Lajoie subject are as varied as the events of 2020. She was deeply affected by the devastation of the bushfires but also inspired and awed by the resilience of the Australian bush. During lockdown, her focus turned towards the simple things that brought her comfort at home, especially to her daughter's floral arrangements and the nearby park where her elderly mother, who stayed with her during lockdown and Millie the toy poodle, went for their daily walks.

Covid-safety

Covid-19 safe procedures operate at the gallery. We record names for contact tracing with the Service NSW QR code, supply hand sanitiser, disinfect our surfaces and have limited number of people in the gallery at a time (depending on the current advice), applying social distancing.
