Salute to Australia has become a ceremonial Australia Day tradition and a spectacular part of the harbour program. However, like so many other things, due to COVID-19 the Salute will be very different in 2021.
For the first time, the Salute to Australia will be a private ceremony held at Government House Sydney, and broadcast nationally on ABC TV.
The contributions of the frontline workers who have helped us get through a very challenging year, will be the focus of the 2021 Salute and a timely reminder of the care and compassion they have given our community. Salute to Australia will also recognise our newest citizens and celebrate them as Australians.
The Salute to Australia program will feature a 21-gun 'Salute to Australia' by the Australian Army, Royal Australian Navy and Royal Australian Air Force. The Governor of NSW will deliver an Australia Day message and we will hear moving stories of the extraordinary contributions of our frontline workers.
A small group of attendees, including new citizens and frontline workers will be invited to attend the ceremony, representing a diverse cross-section of the community.
We invite everyone to share in the spirit by tuning in to watch Salute to Australia on ABC TV. For updates, visit www.australiaday.com.au.
