A Head On photo festival exhibition
Sandy Edwards is known for her role as Director of ARTHERE which supports photographers have exhibitions in Sydney's art world. However before doing that she was Co-director at Stills Gallery for many years and before that she was a working photographer specialising in portraiture, education and the arts.
Throughout the 80's and into the 90's she was a stringer for The Age Newspaper in Melbourne and in this role she photographed hundreds of famous people from outside Australia and within, mainly artists, writers, pop stars, filmmakers, performers and politicians. It was a dream job in so many ways but hard, pressured work as any photographer knows.
In boxes in her archive, the prints from these shoots have been resting waiting for their day in the sun. Everyone photographed including the photographer herself are older and I hope wiser. They are beautifully photographed on analogue black and white film and these vintage images were hand-printed by the photographer in the darkroom at the time.
Some examples, some of my favourites. Jane Campion, Wim Wenders, Ruth Park, Ed Kuepper, P.J O'Rourke, Jackson Brown, Kate Grenville, Mel Gibson, Susan Ryan, Max Dupain, Anna Murdoch, Sting, Jim McLelland. Gillian Armstrong.
Come and see who you recognise! You may be surprised and you may get a laugh when you realise who they are because age doth weary some of us!
