The 2023 Sydney Lunar Festival will be full of action with plenty to explore and amongst the activity will be the SBS Jigsaw Rabbit.
The 'Jigsaw Rabbit' is an expression of tradition evolving and being reinterpreted through a modern lens and shape by artist Chris Yee and brought to life by Sydney based Fabricators, Domus Vim.
'In my experience as part of the larger blooming Asian Australian community, stories are shared, points of cultural knowledge and tradition are relatable, but ultimately this exchange of information is found to resemble something that feels recognisably 'Asian' but also an individual puzzle piece on its own. A fragment that ends up being unique and not easily identifiable.
Like this unique Rabbit made of different styles, shapes and elements - from the outside the silhouette, the artwork resembles something recognisable. If you look a bit closer, parts have jagged edges, are bold, dangerous and formulated of parts that are unpredictable - This is my hope for the Modern Asian Australian Identity, defined by whatever it wants to be and not of what is to be assumed.'
When you come across the Jigsaw Rabbit take a photo and #LNYSBS and #LNY2023
