Sholto Morton's recent works are paintings with complicated compositions, radiant colour and flowing rhythms. There is no one single motif but an abundance of abstract images. The works are produced with no set plan; lines are built in harmony but spiral together en masse to create an intense and obsessive maze of linear agitation.

The artists that have inspired him are: Mark Toby, with his use of calligraphy painting style in which his brush strokes flowed without hindrance; Jackson Pollock for his direct use of paint and his creation of an overall effect amongst seeming chaos; Marcel Duchamp for his famous work 'Large Glass' which allows for an intriguing level of conceptual ambiguity.

Sholto spent many years creating contemporary sculptures made out of paper, cardboard, glad wrap, bean bag balls and plastic bags. Now he finds solace in the beauty, detail, visual complexity and craftsmanship of his current work and he has always appreciated the more colourful, ornate and the glittering aspects of art.

He always wanted to achieve a personal language in this world. His work is an essential meditation and a record of a journey. The works represent both a primitive mark and a more contemporary gesture.

Enjoy a moment of contemplation, be intrigued by the interplay of line, seduced by the colour of the works and delve into the psyche of a mind embracing an inward view to subtleties of life and a path that we would seldom wander.
